How it all started

How It Began

After entering a home counties inter-provincial competition in the summer of 2008 an East Kent mason approached the editor of the Provincial magazine to include a small article enquiring if there were any other masons in the province with an interest in clay pigeon shooting. This, almost immediately, brought a response from 7 fellow shooters and the first meeting of these took place at Hawley Shooting Ground, near Dartford at the beginning of November 2008.

Moving Forward

Since this date, several more East Kent masons have joined the band of shooters, some occasionally, but most for each outing. The club meets every month at one of the shooting grounds in the county which makes it fair with travelling as those taking part come from all across the province. We have also made contacts with other provincial shooting groups & have shot in competitions in Lancashire, Berkshire & Cornwall (at The Annual Masonic National Championships) Norfolk, Suffolk, Sussex & Surrey, as well as this were visits to Middlesex & the Metropolitan Provincial Shooting Associations & a visit from the Province of Essex shooting section, which have become annual events.

Competition Day

The club enters several other clay competitions including the Kent Police annual shoot, Help for Heroes army shoots as well as several masonic shoots held every year by the different provinces. In 2010 we were asked to host the Home Counties Inter-Provincial Championships, which were held at the Robin Hood Shooting Ground, Chatham. 75 guns took part from eight provinces, with the trophies presented by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master.

The Future

The club has been formed with the intention of facilitating clay shooting for masons in the province & to wave the flag for freemasonry & the province within the clay shooting world, both within this county and beyond. We have a Chairman, Secretary & Treasurer, we collect subscriptions towards masonic charities at each meeting & hope to raise further funds which will be donated to other charities. If you are already a clay shooter or you would like to try this exciting sport, please contact us & we will be very pleased to welcome you. Families & friends are also very welcome.
